Blue means "take a nap"

Oh, you were unaware?  Blue means take a nap!  A couple of weeks ago Gavin started talking about the traffic lights and what they mean.  He learned pretty quickly that green means go and red means stop.  Then, of course, he asked about yellow.  Instead of trying to really explain it, I told him it means "caution."  Then a few times he tried to tell me that blue also means go.  I went along with him for a little while.  Then he started asking me.  "What does blue mean?"  I'm sure we were taking one of our "buh-rides(driving around for the purpose of getting him to sleep)" so once when he asked I just blurted out "Take a Nap."  So now if you ask him what blue means, he will in fact say, "take a nap."

In a Halloween Mood

Finally just finished up one of probably eventually three layouts from last Halloween.  It, of course, features my super cute astronaut!  I'm starting to notice that if I don't do it immediately, I feel like scrapping events about 9 months later.  I think it's the anticipation of the upcoming season that gets me in the mood.  This summer has been SOOOOOO hot that I'm really getting ready for fall!  Also, looking at all the new release reports from those who are at CHA is also very inspiring. Need to use up last years product to I can buy more!! HEHEHE.

Bird (and Scrapbooking) Love

I love this page.  I love it because it features my two favorite guys.  I love it because it relates a connection between my son and the grandfather he will never know.  I love it because of the beautiful colors of the birds.  But most of all right now, I love it because it is me.  It have played around with a lot of different techniques and styles lately, but this is really me.  Multi-photo, simple, grid, small patterns, minimal embellishment, lots of color.  It’s very me. I admit, I started with a sketch.  Mostly because I felt like I needed to look through some books and mags to find out what really appeals to me right now.  And actually, the page that this sketch was based on is nothing I would ever do, but what inspired me was the photo collage.  That is me!

Aaron visits and G is sweet!

I feel like today was a very important day.  Not that anything really happened. It was more about what didn't happen.  Gavin and Aaron seem to go through phases with each other.  They're either best friends or mortal enemies, and the switch can occur from one to the other within mere moments.  We've been through a rough patch recently with Gavin being a little mean to his younger cousin.  How to handle it has been such a dilemma.  I don't want G to think it is OK to hit or push his cousin.  Or to take toys away from him.  But I feel like in the process of trying to get him to stop, we've made Aaron a little overly sensitive.  However, today was a great day.  Aaron came over for an hour and a half, and there was hardly an incident. Gavin even offered up toys to Aaron without being prompted.  The only minor incident was when G invited Aaron to come in to his bathroom with him and shut the door.  The light was not on, and although G doesn't mind pitch black darkness, Aaron didn't seem quite as comfortable with it.  It's probably too much to hope for that this detente will continue.  But at least we had one fun, fuss-free play date!

Fire Hydrants

Yes, fire hydrants.  An odd thing to motivate me to blog again since it's been a little long since i've posted.  However, I've become strangely obsessed with fire hydrants around this town for the last week or so.  It started when I noticed Tyler Water Utilities painting the fire hydrants on Copeland Road one day when Gavin and I were buh-riding after school.  I never paid much attention to them before, as I'm sure not many people really have, but I started to notice them.  Which ones had been painted, which ones were still faded.  Which ones were all red and which ones were red and silver.  How many different shapes they seem to come in.  And how close together they are in some places and seemingly far apart in others.  I know.  It seems I surely have something else I should spend my time thinking about.  Like how am I going to get my 2 year old potty trained before his third birthday so he can go back to school in the fall.  Or even what the theme for that third birthday should be.  But the idea that these little gnomes have always lived among us and I've barely even noticed them before is somehow fascinating to me.  So when I saw the Tyler Water Utilities truck pulled up to our closest fire hydrant, I had to sneak out and shoot a pic.  I'm sure if anyone saw me they thought I must be crazy...

Making Tracks

Here is a quick page I did this past weekend about G's love of his GeoTrax trains.  We've spent A LOT of time making tracks and then destroying them.  In fact, our collection of trains and parts has grown quite a bit since G got the starter set from Grammy and PawPaw for Christmas.  I admit, mommy has gotten into making new configurations, but today I'm not really feeling it.

G's School Easter Party

Today was G's Easter Party at school.  I was in charge of cookies for the event, so I got there a little early. As soon as I peek into the classroom, I saw Gavin and his classmates all sitting at the table eating their lunch. I'm always amazed that Ms. Teresa is able to corral this group of two year olds, when I can't even corral the one two year old that I have!  They were so cute, I had to drop the cookies on the floor and take a pic.  One of his classmate's little brother was there and G was so sweet to the baby.  He offered him his cookie and some of his eggs after the egg hunt.  After all the treats Gavin fell hard asleep in the car and took a good afternoon nap!
